Summer 2018

Recent art work and writing by:

DEE BARSY with JAIMIE ISAAC

SARAH PUPO with AISHA SASHA JOHN

MATTHEW RICHARD with SHAVONNE SOMVONG

PATRICK CRUZ with JENIFER PAPARARO

Art & Wonder 5 features four works by artist Dee Barsy, two of which were recently exhibited as part of Insurgence/Resurgence at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Providing context to the paintings are texts by the exhibition’s co-curator, Jaimie Isaac, as well as the artist.

Also with Issue 5, poet Aisha Sasha John offers responses to Sarah Pupo’s series of drawings and new works on silk: what is called spirit? (2016-2018).

Artist Shavonne Somvong introduces a folio of Matthew Richard’s mixed-media work representing four years of drawing and painting.

Patrick Cruz presents a new artist project, By what signs will I come to understand?, a print edition of 120 that expands upon the exhibition Titig Kayumanggi (Brown Gaze) curated by Jenifer Papararo at Plug In ICA in 2017.

Ten selections from Cal Robb’s versatile painting practice are considered in a text by poet and critic Cam Scott, where Robb's Hi Dummy (2014), Silly Rabbit (2016), and Punch at Sea (2018) become “a pre-conceptual bouquet.”
